Data discipline, applied consistently
Sten Zinsvik was built around a simple premise: decisions involving capital should be informed by structured analysis, not sentiment. This page outlines how we got here and what guides our work.
Why Sten Zinsvik exists
Markets and financial decisions generate far more information than any individual can reasonably process in real time. We started Sten Zinsvik to close that gap — building an approach that treats data analysis as infrastructure rather than an afterthought.
Rather than chasing short-term signals, our focus has stayed on building repeatable processes: how data is sourced, how it is weighed, and how conclusions are documented so they can be reviewed and improved. That orientation shapes every part of how we operate today.
Our history
Sten Zinsvik began as a response to a recurring observation: too many capital decisions were being made on incomplete or poorly structured information. The earliest version of our process was narrow by design — a small set of data inputs, reviewed manually, with every conclusion checked against a documented rationale.
Over time, that process was refined rather than replaced. As the volume and variety of relevant data grew, so did the need for consistent methodology. What has not changed is the underlying principle: analysis should be explainable, and conclusions should be traceable back to the data that produced them.
Today, Sten Zinsvik applies that same discipline at a larger scale, supporting clients who need a structured, risk-aware approach to data-informed decisions.
What we're working toward
Our mission is straightforward: help clients make better-informed decisions by making data analysis more rigorous, more transparent, and more consistent.
Capital preservation first
Every analytical process we run is built with downside awareness as a starting point, not an afterthought layered on at the end.
Clarity over complexity
We favor explainable methods over opaque ones. If a conclusion can't be traced back to its inputs, it isn't finished.
Consistency over noise
Our process is designed to apply the same standards every time, reducing the influence of short-term reactions on long-term decisions.
Principles that guide our work
These are the standards we hold our own process to, independent of market conditions or client type.
Transparency
Methods and reasoning should be documented well enough that a client could follow the logic from data to conclusion.
Discipline
Process is followed consistently, including in conditions where it would be tempting to deviate from it.
Accountability
Outcomes are reviewed against the process that produced them, so weaknesses can be identified and addressed.
Restraint
Not every data point warrants a reaction. Part of the discipline is knowing when not to act.
These values are operational commitments, not marketing language. They inform how our internal processes are structured and reviewed.
How we're organized
Sten Zinsvik is structured around a small number of focused functions rather than a large, generalized staff. Each function is responsible for a distinct part of the analytical process — data sourcing and validation, methodology design, and client-facing communication — with clear handoffs between them so that no step in the process is left unreviewed.
We intentionally keep our operating structure lean. A smaller, more accountable team allows for tighter review cycles and a clearer line of responsibility from raw data to the conclusions a client ultimately sees. As Sten Zinsvik grows, that structure — not headcount for its own sake — remains the priority.
